“Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they will learn why they fear the night.” – Thulsa Doom
I was born in the depths of East Anglia, land of fens, marshes, Matthew Hopkins, toad witches, Black Shuck, knuckers, nixies and sprites. Back in the day, folks even once saw a ghost stick, moving rapidly across the sands (not sure what that says about their imagination).
Needless to say, I grew up with a healthy interest in the dark and macabre, aided by a steady diet of horror stories, comicbooks and pulp horror films.
I had an interest in art from an early age, scribbling skeletons and witches in the margins of my school books, before atempting to follow the artistic path academically. Academia was less convinced, and as a result of my school experiences I didn’t pick up a brush for a decade.
More recent years have seen me get my art mojo back, and I now produce works primarily in pen and ink or acrylic on board, some of them in unusual shapes. My work Is heavily influenced by folk horror, filtered through the bodice-ripping movies of Hammer and Amicus.
